Edward the Confessor was the Anglo-Saxon king from whom William drew his claim to the throne.
Edward is called the last king of the House of Wessex, ruling from 1042 until his death in 1066.
English monarchs today are still crowned in his chair at Westminster Abbey.

Henry VIII
